My Chuncheon Routine: A Day at Jade Garden

Chuncheon is the capital of Gangwon Province, a beautiful city surrounded by lakes and mountains.

The air feels fresh, the scenery is beautiful, and there are plenty of little places worth stopping by. It’s also not far from Seoul. With the Seoul–Yangyang Expressway, I can get there in about an hour, which makes Chuncheon one of my favorite places for a spontaneous drive, a good meal, and a cup of coffee before heading home.

I have a few favorite places in Chuncheon:

1. Gubongsan Observatory Café Street — a hillside café area with unique cafés and a beautiful panoramic view over Chuncheon.

2. The area around Kim You-jeong Station — especially for makguksu and dakgalbi, two foods Chuncheon is famous for.

3. Chuncheon National Museum

4. Jade Garden

5.  Yonghwasan Campground, when I feel like spending some time surrounded by nature.

Today, I want to start with Jade Garden.

I’ve visited many botanical gardens and arboretums while traveling, but there is something different about this place.

With its European-style buildings and beautifully arranged themed gardens, Jade Garden is lovely without trying too hard to impress you. Nothing feels overly decorated or showy. Everything is neat, peaceful, and carefully thought out, and you can see how much attention has gone into every little corner.

Walking through the garden feels a little like wandering into a tiny fairytale world.

There are moments when the whole place feels almost dreamlike — quiet, slightly unreal, and somehow just like the beautiful garden you might have imagined as a child.

After years of driving across South Korea, I've realized that highway rest stops aren't just places to take a break - they're parr of the journey. Because of my job, I've spent years driving all over South Korea. I've probably stopped at most of highway rest stops, and honestly, I've lost count. An old Friend & a Fancy Brunch Café

I have a dear friend I've known for 38years. We graduated from the same high school, raised our children, and somehow, all these years have passed.
